SOCE, THE ELEMENTAL WIZARD’S TOP 10: Analog Videos – OUTRODUCTION

That concludes SOCE, THE ELEMENTAL WIZARD’S TOP 10:  Analog Videos.  But, stay tuned for his final words at the end of this post.  First and foremost, on behalf of popolio, Mandrake Arts & Media, and myself, I want to thank Soce for doing this.  I hope he had fun and that it was a challenge because feeling challenged is not always a bad thing.  But, mostly I hope he focused on the fun part.

Before moving on, I did have to follow-up with Soce on one thing.  In his Number 3 Video, he calls out the hypocrisy of certain rappers, specifically Raekwon, for sampling Elton John songs, but, then, holding tight to homophobic beliefs and expousing homophobic statements.  I thought, well, you had Eminem [who has used homophobic epithets in his songs, and yet, has also performed with Elton John (go figure!)] as part of your Number 4 Video.

I included that Raekwon release on a Tuesday Tease and didn’t know about this specific case.  So, I thought to myself, “Would I have left it off had I known?”  Maybe in the moment, but, I, too, have included Eminem releases on Tuesday Teases.

Soce and I agree that it’s a grey area and that, unfortunately, if you dig certain genres, especially hip hop in this case, and you cut out every artist that has homophobic lyrics, you wouldn’t be left with many artists to listen to.  It may also bring up issues of freedom of creative expression for some.  Hate speech is not creative expression in my book, but there is context and intent to consider, which are parts of what I consider the aforementioned grey area.

But, I digress.  Perhaps this is a discussion that needs to continue and be further explored over at our brother blog, MandrakeSocietyRadio.com.  My thought was that a reader might have the same question and want it addressed, so that’s why I put it out there.

So, on top of entertaining us and making us laugh, Soce knows how to make us think as well.  Nothing wrong with that!   See what I mean in our previous Soce content:

Well, I hope you have enjoyed this musical tapestry I have laid out before you.  I love composing and creating music and I love listening just as much.  It’s great fun to connect together all types of songs and mix together present and past to see what happens.  You can drop a beat, production, or hook on classics and make them new once more.  Keep up your research!  Thanks again, as always, popolio.com for letting me share!
